An early start to cover the magnificent course easily. Experience the majesty and colors of the desert. Picnic under the nomadic tent and camp near Tinouarderit.
🏜️ **Day 5: Erg Ouarane – Zerga Chain: Guelb er Raoui**
Leave Ouarane to join the Zerga chain at the guelb er Raoui, known as “the mouflon mountain.” Explore the site and discover cave paintings. Walking hours: 5:30 – 6h.
🏜️ **Day 6: Zerga Chain: Arouetine**
Ascend Zerga, a ruiniform sandstone landscape. Picnic and encounter a nomadic population near the Arouetine well. Walking hours: 5:30 – 6h.
🏜️ **Day 7: Zerga Chain – Atar**
Complete the hike with the summit of Zerga and its impressive large dune. Descend to find 4x4s, picnic under acacias, and transfer to Atar. Free city visit. Dinner and overnight at the hostel. Walking hours: 3h30 – 4h.

Oualata (or Walata) is one of the cornerstone trade cities in the trans-Saharan Trade Route. It is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the farthest of the ancient Mauritanian cities to reach from Nouakchott. Traveling to this city requires passing through Tichit, so it can almost always be seen together with another of the four ancient cities. You’ll also pass awesome sites on the way as well, like the Elephant Mountains. It is rich with history as a cultural and religious center as the southern terminus of the centuries-old trade route, and, fittingly, the home of a manuscript museum.
