**Day 2: Atar to Oudane and Richat Structure**
Travel to Oudane, a historic town 90km north of Atar, renowned for its ancient architecture. En-route, marvel at the Richat Structure, famously known as the “Eye of the Sahara.” Return to Oudane for a night at the same hotel.
**Day 3: Oudane to Chinguetti**
Drive to Chinguetti, one of Mauritania’s oldest and best-preserved desert towns. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of historic mosques and libraries. Overnight in Chinguetti.
**Day 4: Chinguetti to the Big Sand Dunes**
Embark on a camel journey to the Big Sand Dunes, located approximately 10km from Chinguetti. Visit the Singing Dune, a natural marvel that hums with the wind. Return to Chinguetti for another night.
**Day 5: Chinguetti to Terjit Oasis**
Travel from Chinguetti to Zarga Mountain, meeting Bedouin and Berber communities. Spend the night experiencing their way of life. Continue to the Terjit Oasis, where a night in a traditional desert camp awaits.
**Day 6: Terjit Oasis to Iron Train and Benamira Monolith**
Visit the Benamira Monolith, a prehistoric stone formation. Head to Choum to board the Iron Train, an iconic journey through the Sahara Desert with one night aboard.
**Day 7: Noudhibou and Banc d’Arguin**
Take a well-deserved rest in Noudhibou, explore the city, and then journey to Banc d’Arguin for a night at Arkeiss Camp.
**Day 8: Island Exploration and Return to Nouakchott**

Oualata (or Walata) is one of the cornerstone trade cities in the trans-Saharan Trade Route. It is now an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of the farthest of the ancient Mauritanian cities to reach from Nouakchott. Traveling to this city requires passing through Tichit, so it can almost always be seen together with another of the four ancient cities. You’ll also pass awesome sites on the way as well, like the Elephant Mountains. It is rich with history as a cultural and religious center as the southern terminus of the centuries-old trade route, and, fittingly, the home of a manuscript museum.
